Impacts on livelihoods

Tanzania’s coastal forests offer a reservoir of resources for the rural communities living within them. With increasing waves of degradation threatening biodiversity, are livelihoods affected too? Conducting community surveys with rural villages will allow us to develop an understanding of how the timber and charcoal trades have impacted people’s livelihoods, and whether the impacts have been positive or negative.

Focal group discussions with men, women, and those involved in local forest management will explore forest governance and participatory forest management practices.
